this album was self-released in 2007. I probably made about 50 complete packages (included a DVD of the live tour set I did with Carl Diehl on visuals). Other Music carried it, which I am very grateful for. The cover was just a wrap-around piece of white felt.

the title "the shore that feared the sea" is from the Susan Cooper "Dark is Rising" series, which I was turned onto by Mercury Rev.

the painting used in the insert was found on the street. it was a run-of-the-mill painting of a woman overlooking a pond and someone had crayon-ed in a green sea monster. i still have this painting hanging in my bedroom.

i made a real effort for this album to sound more 'professional.'

in many ways this album and the two before it was a trilogy of a certain maximal approach that i, moving forward, tried to scale back. this is also the last album with very prominent 'traditional' vocals.
